Abstract

There is growing interest to analyse ENSO variability back in time to better decipher how ENSO is evolving under global warming. The presentation will  present the results of three recent papers. The first study (Emile-Geay et al. 2015) provides the first pan Pacific reconstruction of ENSO variability for the Holocene from corals, giant bivalves and shell. The second one (Saint-Lu et al. 2016) investigates the changes in El Nino event energetics in the mid-Holocene and the last one (Saint-Lu et al. 2015) the stability of the ENSO-SPCZ teleconnetion in different climates. New possibilities for model-data comparisons and the evaluation of inter annual variability using past climate reconstructions will be highlighted.
