Chinese Version of WCRP Achievements at high level Climate Research Meeting

The kick-off meeting of National Key Basic Research Program of Global Change was held on July 9, 2010 in Beijing . Officials of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Finance (MOF) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and more than two hundred scientists from different institutes and universities attended the meeting. MOST Minister Gang Wan addressed the importance of global change research that requires multidisciplinary and international cooperation. Vice Minister Jianlin Cao announced the official launch of the 19 pilot projects and appointed the expert panel led by Academician/Dr. Xu Guanhua, former minister of the MOST, Academician/Dr. Dahe Qin, and Academician/Dr. Guoxiong Wu.

The Chinese version of The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Achievements by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) was also introduced and distributed to all the officials and the scientists at the meeting. The WCRP Achievement was released in the fall 2009 and WCRP JSC member Dr. Guoxiong Wu immediately organized its translation by scientists of State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG), Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), CAS. The Achievements spotlights selected activities that were sponsored, coordinated and carried out by WCRP core projects and working groups during the past five years and it was highly recognized by the scientists present at the meeting. Dr. Jianping Li, the lead contributor to the translation and publication of Chinese version of the Achievement, was also invited to give a speech on behalf of the chief scientists of the19 pilot projects at the kick-off meeting.
