The 10th General Circulation Model Simulations of the East Asian Climate (EAC) workshop was held on 18-20 August, 2009 in Yinchuan. The theme of the workshop is East Asian Monsoon in the warming climate. The workshop was hosted by LASG/IAP. Dr. Jianping Li, LASG deputy director and Prof. Huang-Hsiung Hsu of Taiwan National University are the new co-coordinators of the EAC activities as well the co-conveners of the 10th workshop. EAC has the history of 15 years since the first workshop in the United States in 1994. It holds the workshop on the biennial basis and greatly promotes the research on the East Asian climate and model development.
More than 30 participants from US, Japan, Canada, Australia, Vietnam, Taipei and mainland China attended the workshop. The workshop consists of four sessions,
Session 1. Atmosphere-ocean-land interaction
(Co-chairs: Tim Li and Tianjun Zhou)
Session 2. Monsoon-aerosol-radiation interaction
(Co-chairs: William Lau and Wei-Chyung Wang)
Session 3. Monsoon variability on various time-scales
(Co-chairs: Huang-Hsiung Hsu and Jianping Li)
Session 4. Monsoon prediction
(Co-chairs: Masahide Kimoto, Yong Luo, and Jong-Seong Kug)
The reports were given on these topics and there was intense discussion immediately after each session. Critical issues were raised and the research focus of the next two years was scoped with the hope that next time there will be a better understanding of these issues.
