The LOC has arranged city tours on the following days--3,
5, 8, 10 August 2005.

The tour set off at 1:30 p.m. Our local guide will take
you on a ride to the Summer Palace. You will see Tian'
an Men Square, Temple of Heaven, and downtown city on
your way. The summer Palace was a resort for the Imperial
court, built in 1888. There are palaces, pavilions,
terraces and long corridor stretches out along the northern
shore of Kunming Lake. The duration will be 4 hours.

Weekend
Excursions
On weekend (6, 7 August 2005), there will be four excursions
around Beijing. Each will last the whole day and you may choose
any one of them.
Option
1: Ming Tombs-Lunch-the Great Wall ($ 45/p) 08:30-18:00
The Ming Tombs are group of mausoleums of 13 Ming emperors.
The underground burial chamber of Ming Emperor Wanli is open
to the public after excavation in 1956. The Great wall was
originally built in 221 BC. It was used for military purpose
then.

2: Forbidden City-Lunch-Temple of Heaven ($ 40/p) 08:30-16:30
The Forbidden City was the political center of China for nearly
500 years. Today, it remains as the most complete and best-preserved
collection of ancient buildings in China. The Temple of Heaven
has been called the noblest example of religious architecture
in China.

3:Lama Temple-Liuli Chang-Ancient observatory ($23/p) 08:30-18:00
Lama Temple, a renowned lama temple of the Yellow Hat Sect
of Lamaism, is situated in the northeast part of Beijing city.
It was originally built in 1694 as the residence of the Qing
Emperor. Today there are some 70 Mongolian Lamas tending the
temple. Liulichang Street of ancient Chinese culture is 750
meters long from east to west. It is flanked with antique
shops of mock ancient architecture of gilded and carved columns
and beams. Beijing Ancient Observatory is one of the oldest
observatories in the world which was built in 1442 A.D..There
are huge astronomic instruments mounted on the platform and
attached buildings of Purple Hall, Eastern and Western Wings
and Sun's Shadow Hall.

4: Hutong-Prince Gong's Residence-Beihai Park ($40/p) 08:30-18:00
It is a tour in residential areas, where you can attach to
Beijing native culture, especially when winding your way through
Hutong (Chinese alleys) on the old style tricycle. Prince
Gong's Residence is the best-kept and biggest courtyard building
in the world. Beihai park is a royal residence with the history
of 1000 years and the white Pagoda in the park is one of famous
symbols of Beijing.

Pre-and Post-Conference Tours will be specially arranged for
conference participants to visit many well-known historic
sites, scenic areas and recent developments in many cities
in China. The prices listed below are the per person rates
for the excursions. The rate for single (S) accommodation
(one persons occupying one room) is slightly higher than double
(D) occupancy (two persons occupying one room). Participants
should self-arrange and pay for their own transportation to
either Shanghai or Guangzhou before the tour begins.

for the tours:
The following services will be offered and included:
¡¤ On the first day of pre-tours in the starting city, the
travel agency will pick up participants from airport to hotels
that are covered by the tour package.
¡¤ Accommodations with buffet breakfasts at 4-star hotels.
¡¤ Daily lunches and dinners at downtown restaurants in each
city.
¡¤ Sightseeing on air-conditioned coach with an English-speaking
city guide in each city. An English-speaking domestic package
guide will be an extra only for groups of more than 10. Entrance
tickets to local sites are included.
¡¤ Inter-city transportation includes express train tickets
to Hong Kong. All exit tickets and airport construction fee
(similar to airport departure fee) are to be self-arranged.
¡¤ If no accompanying person's name is indicated in your application
form for Pre- and Post-Conference Tour, you will be treated
as a single occupancy during the tour.
